On the authority of Abu Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Islam began as something strange and will return to being strange as it began, so give glad tidings to the strangers.” Collected by Muslim.
Commenting on this Hadeeth Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan (hafithahullah), “Now in these times Islaam has returned back to being strange. This is the case even if those who claim Islaam have reached millions (in number) or more. However, the correct Islaam is strange amongst those who claim Islaam; so how much more so amongst the disbelievers. The Muslim who is upon correctness is a stranger amongst those who claim Islaam. So the point (of the matter) is not based upon the large amount (of Muslims), rather it is based upon the reality (of the affairs). The Muslims who are upon the likes of that which the Messenger and His companions were upon are strangers amongst the (general masses of the) Muslims.”
